Little Crickets Sunderland have been celebrating Chinese New Year and diving into the culture and traditions behind this celebration.
The celebration began with a lesson on the legend of the Great Race, which explains how the years of the Chinese zodiac were allocated to different animals. This story engrossed the children’s imaginations as they learned how each animal earned its place in the zodiac cycle.
The children also explored the tradition of red envelopes—symbols of good luck and prosperity. They learned why these envelopes are shared during Chinese New Year and had the chance to create their own, adding a personal and colourful touch to this beloved tradition.
Since 2025 is the Year of the Snake, the children got creative by crafting their own snakes, showcasing their artistic flair while celebrating the zodiac animal for the upcoming year.
Ad of course they had Chinese food for lunch!
